artist-at-large.com is about art, culture and travel. Good for both the trip researcher and armchair traveler, you will find travel stories, travel information, quirky survey questions, photos of the day, and listings for exhibitions and open studios and events in each region on the site. The stories and information presented on the site are written in a way that are meant to be valuable over a long period of time, like an art or travel magazine or guidebook that you keep by your desk and flip through when you need information, or just want to daydream. The site also fosters online art education in its ArtStudio and promotes artists from around the world in The Artist Directory.

M.Louise Stanley’s Art Lover’s Tour 2010
Dates: We depart from San Francisco Thursday, June 3rd, 2010 and return 16 days later, June 18th.
Departure/Arrivals: San Francisco, California (SFO) to and from Milan, Italy
Cost: $4,085 (request brochure for particulars)
The Plan: We will explore several small medieval towns north of Florence, including Milan, the business and fashion center of Italy with several wonderful collections, a castle, and an outrageously Kitschy cemetery full of elaborate sculpture and tomb monuments. For those who want to see what’s left of Leonardo’s Last Supper, we’ll get reservations before-hand on-line. Florence, of course is full of Renaissance highlights which you’ll remember from your Jansen and we’ll add new sights for you returnees who want to dig deeper. Verona, Mantova, Vicenza and Lucca are steeped in medieval history and artifacts and we’ll draw, paint and explore them along with Santa Margherita Ligure which sits above the Cinque Terre, five coastal fishing villages and pedestrian towns strung out, walking distance from each other. Nothing tops the views and picturesque fishing harbors you’ll see.
Our itinerary will include all the major ‘must sees’ in each of these cities with a walking tour full of historical information and little surprises along the way.
A pre-trip meeting will help us prepare and your suggestions are encouraged to flesh out our itinerary. We have several returnees who want to dig deeper and will intensify the treasure hunt! You don’t have to be an artist, but you do need a healthy appetite for art, history and adventure…. And good feet!
