Sissi Hale
I’ve been a painter, a sculptor and a designer at different times in my life. I’ve always felt the need to express myself creatively, since early childhood. I have worked with a wide range of materials in different areas of design, including installations in metal, industrial design and architecture.
I have been in love with oils since I can remember. I am completely smitten with the colours, the light, and the textures unique to oils. I pay special attention when choosing the right palette for a series. This can take long hours experimenting before I can start seeing something that works. I try to capture an emotional response to a subject, I find it very hard to stay literal. I paint what I see, my style is loose and messy. Up close my paintings can look almost abstract. I crave textures and bold brush strokes, but my tools of choice are knives.
I am attracted to my surroundings, fascinated by them. I often look around me in bewilderment. Whether it’s the city or the countryside, I feel compelled to paint it.
